Freshman year at Stanford is a great time to prepare for the next 3 years of study and activities. You'll be taking a lot of required courses and prerequisites for subjects in which you might not be interested. While many students complain of this, it's also a structured time for you to explore the wacky traditions and student activities. Stanford is very self-directed, and not just in academics, so after freshman year it's really up to you to decide your classes and schedule. There are also student groups for every subject imaginable, the arts, athletics, journalism, entrepreneurship, activism etc, and you'll have opportunities to study abroad. Also the student body is downright bizarre honestly, so don't miss out on all the silliness to let out your inner crazy!
