The type of student who should attend Washington State University is one who genuinely loves people unconditionally and wants to serve them. Service amongst your fellow students is a huge priority. One of my greatest experiences with service was when my volleyball team got to volunteer at Valley Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Oncology Nursery. For three hours, we got to play with innocent children who had been plagued by horrible cancers and were undergoing treatment. I had the opportunity to do crafts with a little 4 year old boy who was recovering from leukemia. In every activity I did with him, he was so cheerful and enthusiastic. Best of all, he was so happy that I was there and that he could make a new friend. This was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. It allowed me to develop a new type of love for people and a more genuine admiration for those that have to endure brutal trials. It made me reflect on my life and realize just how grateful I am to have the healthy body that I have. On that day, I made the decision that I wasn’t going to waste my life being unproductive, but instead utilize my blessings to help those who are less fortunate than I am. That is why I am attending Washington State University: I am the type of person who is genuinely compassionate and will put the comfort of others before my own.

The type of student who should attend Washington State University is someone who loves to get involved. At WSU, there are numerous ways to be active in the Cougar community. There is something for everyone, including volunteer groups, academic clubs, outdoor clubs, and so much more. I am currently a member of my residence hall's government, which means that I get the opportunity to plan events for my fellow college students in order to enhance their experience here at WSU. I recently hosted a "planner night" for students to get organized as they enter their spring semester. As a WSU Coug, I take pride in the fact that students go above and beyond as they further their education. This is what it means to be a student as Washington State University.

Most students who attend WSU do so not only for the education, but also for the partying. The fact that WSU is located in a small town (Pullman) with a campus police force and a Pullman City police force lends to the very low crime rate. However, because 90% of the population are college students, partying with underage drinking is very common. In my experience, students who attend ONLY for the parties end up dropping out by the end of the first semester if not sooner. WSU is primarily a research facility hiding under the guise of a University. Associate degrees are acquired through attending barely-above-highschool-level classes by graduate students, most of whom are teaching without any prior teaching experience. As soon as students pick a major and enter that specified program, the education becomes infinitely more helpful. Those who are good at making friends, do not succumb to peer pressure, and have done their first two years elsewhere coming to WSU as a transfer students, will succeed with the smallest amount of school loan debt and get the most for their money.
