Students at the University of Puget Sound are generally rather outdoorsy. Trips into the beautiful Pacific Northwest are not uncommon, whether these might be for hiking, camping, sailing, mountainiering, climbing, backpacking, or other out doors activities. Loggers are also avid readers, so it's not uncommon to find students lying in hammocks on a sunny spring day enjoying a good book. Puget Sound students also believe very strongly in being active members of their community, whether that means the one on campus, or the greater community of Tacoma as a whole, so it is very common to see Loggers volunteering anywhere from local firehouses to community service centers, to on campus volunteering in the Center for Health and Wellness Services.

At the University of Puget Sound, there is a great diversity of interests. Saying that people go to parties for fun doesn't exactly cover it because there are so many different kind of parties going on. There's the classic "college party" that is often thrown by sororities, but there's also board game parties that smaller intimate groups have, theatre parties that happen after the closing nights of shows for all the cast and crew members to finally relax again, and others. Many students like to go to the shows that are constantly happening on campus. There are plays, concerts, and dance performances, of many varying types because there are so many different student groups. But what I think just about everyone on campus likes to at least on a weekly basis is hang out either down in The Cellar (the student run pizza place), or at Diversions or Oppenheimer Cafe (the two student run coffee shops). All three of these places are constant hot spots for students to just sit down, have some food or coffee, read a book, do their homework, listen to music, and especially hang out with their friends. Each of the three places has a different atmosphere based upon what they sell, what kind of music they play, and who likes to go there. It results in everyone on campus having a place that they feel comfortable just simply hanging out.

It is important to get a break from academics. University sponsored activities, assorted clubs, and exploring the local Tacoma area are all activities students at the University of Puget Sound do for fun. The university offers many events on campus. The $1 movie theater on campus offers current movies every weekend. Sports events are popular both indoor and outdoor locations and as a spectator or player. Club activities occur regularly. The improv club offers weekly shows in the campus’ late night diner. The school’s dance group is open to all students of all levels and holds two performances a year. Off campus opportunities are just as vast as on campus activities. Popular 6th Avenue, two blocks away from campus, is filled with diverse restaurants and local shopping. Beautiful Point Defiance Park, with its scenic walking trails along the waterfront, is just a bus ride away from campus. The local farmer’s market is just three blocks from campus. University sponsored events and local destinations are good breaks from academic work, but hanging out in your door room with a few good friends tops the list.
