Dear Scholarship Committee,
My name is Ling Yan/ Shimshak, I original from China and now I am a proud US citizen. I have always carve of knowledge and like to help others. My family poor financial status couldn’t afford me to pursue higher education. In my generation, there wasn’t a government system to provide student loan to allow me to go to college. Fortunately, I came to America where can make dream come to true. I finished a tech school as licensed Medical Assistant with honor. However, the learning process and accomplishment have brought me great fulfillment and gratification. I have enrolled college when I was 36 years old. I am now a senior of psychology major, and my ultimate goal is to pursue another four year graduate school to become a Physical Therapist. I am very excited about my future and feel that with the opportunity your scholarship will provide, I can continue pursue my educational dream.
My desire of knowledge and personal growth have been encouraged by my son and friends. I feel grateful every day that I have opportunity to attending school. I know in some countries, many people like me who carve of education but don’t have chance to pursue it. I am also a devote Christian, I have joined some volunteer actives wherever I can, such as I did food service, bell ringers for Salvation Army, and make little donation as much as I could afford. I believe that knowledge is the best gift from God, and He wants us to use it to make contribution to society and help others. In now days, have a higher education would allowed me to make more money, and have more capabilities to help others. My ongoing mission from God is to help more people, make more donation and doing more volunteer work for rest of my life.
There are many barriers in front of me ever since I come to America, such as language barrier, cultural adjustment, and finance. I came long way and have overcame many barrier in the past. Even though, there are still many challenges in my path to reach my goal. My experience taught me that challenges make me stronger, and hard work will defeat all barriers. I am a single mother with one eleven years old son, he has motivated me to become better and set a good example. I am working part time at Center Chiropractic in La Crosse as a Massage Therapy while attending school full time. My biggest barrier now is finance which I have worked as much as I can. I have to put extra effort due to my poor English background. I have received Federal Aid, but still not enough to cover my school and living expense.
Your organization stands for that will help me with my financial need. Like your organization, I hope to help others as much as I can for the rest of my life. In order to reach my goals, I need as much help as possible. I pray that your organization can help me reach this dream by awarding me your scholarship.
