Asked about: Laney High School

Describe the type of student who should attend Laney High School. Why?

Anonymous, Student, Laney High School, Class of 2017

One only has to look as far as the gymnasium dedicated in his honor to realize the attraction of attending Laney High School. Perhaps the greatest basketball player in history and generous contributor, Laney boasts an impressive alumni: Michael Jordan. Number twenty-three's legacy is felt here, particularly in the school's basketball teams which are consistently financially supported. One must still possess talent to play basketball professionally or even at the collegiate level (though perhaps not necessarily at Jordan's), but monetary support still helps to provide opportunities, ones that could lead to college scholarships. Jordan's legacy and generosity is instrumental in this. Laney High also boasts an impressive music department with an award-winning band and the largest orchestra in the county. The type of student that should attend Laney High School is one who looks for opportunities by means other than academic merit, like athleticism or musicianship, and possesses the drive, talent, and abilities required to realize the legacy and requirements of becoming a Buccaneer.

The type of student that should attend the school is a hard working student who is not afraid of doing work. They have to be able and ready to learn everyday no matter what. Because laney is all academics.

Any student could attend Laney High School. You can get an education no matter where you go. Although it is primarily African American, to me it is a great school. I am a senior and when I go off to college, I feel that I will be prepared to excel and prosper as any other student will be able to. I chose to enroll in this school even though it was outside of my school zone because of the history of this school. It has great alumni support and being an athlete it had very competitive sport teams.
