One should attend University of Southern California, because you are from southern California :), just kidding. The university of Southern California is an esteemed name among top universities in the US. I haven't attended this university myself but based on what I've heard is- it is among the best universities for its culture and professors. Disclaimer: I am not some education counsellor. I am just a regular graduate who is now doing coding for developing apps.

I think it is idiosyncratic and depends on the student, as does every college (or grad school) experience. As for me, I felt like USC was supportive and nurturing in the arts (I studied creative writing and also took courses in both the film and music departments); I liked the campus and found it soothing and relatively easy to navigate; and years after graduating I still enjoy being part of the great Trojan network when making personal and professional contacts.

Great education. You will get smarter. Top notch professors, diverse study programs, and all that fluff every university boasts is specially true for USC. Prestige. If you seek to stay in the Southern Cali area or anywhere in the West coast, USC is the way to go. Job opportunities abound for USC alumni. Fun. Located in LA, it does not get any more fun than that. If you wanna have fun and do cool, interesting stuff, all you gotta do is cross the street.

The Trojan Family is a long line of connections where people can instantly click and gain connections because of their attendance at the university. 1. The Trojan Family: We are constantly promised and reminded that the "Trojan Family" takes care of one another and fellow Trojans will be more likely to offer jobs to other Trojans. This is often cited as one of the reasons why USC Admissions is more likely to admit a legacy, since they like to "help" the Trojan Family by admitting the children of alumni.
  2. Connections/ Reputation: I recently studied abroad in Paris and while I was in London at the London Book Fair, I mentioned USC and, much to my surprise, famous British guest speakers knew of my university and were impressed with me for attending such a prestigious university! I currently work as a tutor and I have been hired entirely because of my education at USC and its reputation. I was once hired on the spot because I am a USC student! I kid you not, I didn't even have to send in my resume!
  3. Academics: We have some of the best, most enthusiastic, and well-educated professors in California. I've been at USC for a year and I have not met a single professor who does not care deeply about his or her students. All of my professors seem to genuinely want me to succeed. They are willing to have dinner to discuss my academics or spend extra time explaining especially difficult concepts.

I am part of the School of Social Work and they have numerous current research projects underway funded by the US Department of Justice, US Department of Defense, and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A second reason to attend USC is it's reputation for academic excellence and producing alumni who go on the be leaders in their fields of study and service. And a third reason is the location of USC. It sits in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the world, with opportunities for exposure to a wide variety of experiences, and with a year round climate and scenery that cannot be beat!

As a transfer student I have had the opportunity to be able to adequately suggest why someone should attend the University of Southern California. I have had the privilege to attend this institution for some time and there are many reasons as to why someone should attend this great university. For example, the academic and social opportunities are like no other. The rigorous course load and abundance of interesting courses can clear paths for even the most unsure student while also preparing them to perform at the highest of levels. Another reason to attend this university is because the faculty and staff provide for a scholarly experience unlike any other. Because of the numerous alumni who both work and teach at USC the honesty, willingness to help, and passion for teaching provide for a learning environment that is not only immensely positive but proactive as well. The faculty and staff truly care and wish to help in any way possible whether it be provide endless help, or offer different internship, volunteer, or paid opportunities. And lastly the most important reason someone should attend USC is to become a part of the Trojan Family. The Trojan Family is an in-depth network of students, alumni, faculty, and staff that encompass the whole university and promote the continued success of students at this institution. The strong bond that this university creates opens doors and creates relationships that will last a lifetime. The Trojan Family is something that has given me the ability to understand that I have all different people who not only support me endeavors and passions but are there for me just as I am there for them.

Top 3 reasons are: 1) If they are interested in pursuing a field in any of USC's prestigious fields such as Business or Film 2) Interested in making connections. USC's trojan network is actually VERY big and may make a huge difference in your life. 3) You want to have a great college experience. Students are involved in so many things ranging from greek life to feminist organizations. 2) Open minded. People from all over the world come and attend USC, so be prepared to see different cultures, personalities, traditions, beliefs...the list goes on. 3) The city! The area surrounding USC is known to be "sketchy" and sometimes it is. BUT Los Angeles definitely provides a unique city experience to many students who chose to take advantage of it. Be adventurous.

Scholarship - if you get one then go Lots of resources + very few people taking advantage of them Industry relations and experience

Anonymous, Student, University of Southern California, Class of 2017

  1. The Location Though USC is located precariously close to the ghetto, and that will inevitably make you uneasy at one point or another during your time here, its being in LA provides so many opportunities for graduating students to seamlessly enter the professional world in their chosen field. P.S. All the amenities provided by the school are really nice, despite the dilapidated world around it.
  2. The Diversity of the School There are so many majors walking around this campus, and that allows students to meet so many different kinds of people and share ideas with them. USC's programs range from Acting to Video game design to Neuroscience, and this also allows for students to take lower level classes in these programs that they might be interested in, even if it doesn't pertain to your major. If a student takes advantage of this diverse school, they'll irrefutably leave a more well rounded person.
  3. The Trojan Family It might sound corny, or like something that is just regurgitated from the USC marketing department, but it's actually true. Successful Trojan graduates want to help students at SC, and they often provide great internship programs for students wanting to go into a similar field.
