At the beginning of the year, all of the students come to the UNLV Premier—a spectacular firework show with a large crowd of in-coming freshman and returning students. It is a huge welcoming event, and I think a great way to pump up everyone about starting the new academic school year. What high school started the year this way? None that I know of.
Although they don't start until winter, the basketball games are another great part of UNLV's student life. The student section is completely red and the awesome big head posters, donated by alumni, are crazy and fun. We may not win every game (I wish we could relive the 90's) but being there with that energy in the crowd is unforgettable and much better than the games I went to for my high school team.
It may not be everyone's favorite, but I love the UNLV art gallery. I absolutely love artwork, though I am not talented myself, and going to see exhibits from around the US and from around the world is, plainly, awesome. Not to mention some of my friend's work can be displayed there and that in itself is exciting.
