Would you recommend attending Patrick Henry High School if you had the choice? Why or why not?

Anonymous, Student, Patrick Henry High School, Class of 2016

After attending this school for three and a half years, I would honestly say I would come back regardless of choice. I had moved up north to a boarding school and suddenly realized that the school I attended was no where near as close knit, friendly, or united like Patrick Henry. And as my own personal choice, I moved back and finished my junior year here. This school has shaped me into the person I am, from a shy and introverted person, to a very outgoing and sociable person who, also is running for homecoming court as the first openly gay person.

If I had the choice to recommend my school to others, I would tell them it may be a better option to search elsewhere. My reasoning for this is not due to the students, but due to the lack of organization and quality teachers. When it comes to needed information for events, athletics, needed paperwork, and general knowledge of the school, our school lacks in order. Often, our school does not provide us with needed information, leaving a student lost. When asking administrators and other staff for this information, we are often sent from person to person, never obtaining needed material.
Although there are many teachers who truly care about our education at Patrick Henry, many seem to think of it as only a way to get their weekly paycheck. Many teachers are careless as to what we are learning and how we learn it. For example, I have had several teachers who will not have a lesson plan on several days a year, simply tell their personal life stories on a day to day basis, and some teachers who show movies every other day and never assign homework. That is not quality education for a teacher who lacks motivation, will cause students to lack motivation in their own future.
