Dysart High offers various extracurricular activities that motivate us as students and prepare us for our futures. Among these activities are the Sports Medicine Program, Health Occupations Students of America, and the SkillsUSA Automotive Tech program.
Sports Medicine has a proffesional and motivational atmosphere that inspires and prepares anyone looking to join the medical field. As a student pursuing a medical career, I have always been a hands on learner. This program allows me to interract with my peers as a health professional would with a patient. The hard work and the experiences allow me to have a glimpse of what my future in the medical field will hold.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) also offers hands on learning, but more importantly, you are working with other students that share the same dreams as you do. The medical professionals in the program inspire you and assist you in finding the medical career that is right for you. I recently attended the Annual 2015 HOSA Conference Clinical Nursing Competition after scoring 16th in the region on HOSA's regional test for Clinical Nursing. My instructor's assistance and my drive led me to place 10th in state.
SkillsUSA Automotive Tech Program presents numerous opportunities to earn certifications and begin working while still in high school. The program at Dysart High School is very popular because we are the only high school in the region with an auto shop and all the necessary equipment. The instructor, Kurt Woods, provides us with the skills and motivation to earn ASE certifications and the knowledge to become a part of the automotive industry. Each year, Dysart's SkillsUSA students build a solar cart from scratch and participate in Racing the Sun, a solar cart race. It is inspiring and astounding to see what we are capable of when offered the resources to succeed, and each solar cart has been a product of our hard work, skills, and dedication. Given these opportunities, I have earned ASE certifications in both HVAC and Engine Repair, and am currently school treasurer of Dysart SkillsUSA and Dysart Auto Club.
