The three extracurricular activities at Massapequa High School that are the most popular are our sports teams, Key Club and Best Buddies. These activities give students the opportunity to work with a large group of their peers to work towards and achieve goals. The extracurricular activities I recommend are the school newspaper and DECA. As a member of the school newspaper, students are able to voice their opinion, improve their journalism skills while also exploring other skills such as photography, computer design, and drawing for a publication. Being a writer, photographer and editor of the school newspaper has allowed me many opportunities to share my thoughts with the student body as well as grow as a writer. DECA is another beneficial extracurricular at Massapequa High School as it gives students a competitive environment to test and improve their business skills in a field of their choice. Being a member of DECA has helped me improve my presentation skills while allowing me to demonstrate my knowledge of the business field. Because of this, I highly recommend the school newspaper and DECA.

At Massapequa, many students choose to participate in sports. We have award winning teams such as my sisters' field hockey team claiming the County title, or our girls' soccer team winning states several years in a row. Some kids also like to participate in our arts programs, such as our art classes painting murals in the hallways and nearby stores or our music department putting on brilliant concerts and shows. Many students also enjoy contributing to the community, with events such as SADD's Safe Halloween to give families a safe alternative to trick or treating, or the Catch a Wave fundraiser to raise money for cancer research.
