The biggest asset, in my opinion, is the art department. I firmly believe we have one of the best art programs in the country. It is obvious the faculty cares about their students and they push them to places they would not have ventured before. They are some of the most intelligent people I have met in my life and they foster an atmosphere of creativity among the students. My art professors are nationally and internationally recognized, know the business incredibly well, and are an invaluable resource for all of their students. I have immense pride in saying I am a part of this department and have the honor of learning from them. I also know I am not the only person who feels that way.
Saint Cloud State is a fairly liberal school. I enjoy the attitude of teaching about important topics such as the environment, race relations, women's issues, etc. Saint Cloud State makes these topics visible instead of sweeping them under the rug. Not only are the topics visible, but there are people from across the board chiming in on these topics. I have my personal opinion and it tends to be very liberal, but I also enjoy that other people, with more conservative opinions, feel they can speak up also (even if I do shake my head at it sometimes).
The cost was also a big factor in my decision to attend SCSU and stay. The education I receive has been of a high-quality and I have saved thousands of dollars a year by coming here instead of going to the University of Minnesota. They are constantly updating the facilities and adding new amenities to keep the education at a high level, such as the new science building on campus. We also receive many services for the cost of our tuition, such as access to the Write Center, LGBTQ services, on-campus Health Services, and many more. I would definitely say that you get a bargain compared to other colleges.
