USC students always tailgate for our fantastic SEC football games (or any football game, or any sporting event, really), go downtown to either Five Points or the Vista, or hang around campus on the horseshoe or near restaurants.

College life is a big transition at the University of South Carolina. Students often find themselves with a great deal of free time and the decision of how to spend it is ever looming. Many students spend this free time exercising at one of our state of the art athletic facilities. One of these, known as the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness center is a wonderful place to go and exercise. Another activity students like myself enjoy doing is referred to as "eno-ing" at our historical Horseshoe or around campus. This is where students hang up these comfortable parachute hammocks between trees to study, read, relax or just hang out. The third and final thing many students love to do is rafting or tubing during our famously hot months. Students typically band together and tie rafts and floats together to raft down the Saluda River in Columbia. There is an abundance of activities that engulfs you as a student at the University of South Carolina.

The University of South Carolina is a large popular school in South Carolina with a student school spirit rate that is through the roof! As a student, for fun, I absolutely love volunteering and doing community service! The university offers numerous opportunities for volunteering; I enjoy going to the local animal shelter and the local nursing homes in the city! The school is very big in SEC for football! As students, tailgating on Saturday's before the game is a must-have experience at the University of South Carolina! During a tailgate, students get to mingle with their friends and family while enjoying great food and of course the game of corn hole! The number one thing that us students do for fun, is enjoying the many restaurants of Columbia, SC. The city is very large and diverse when it comes to restaurants! The university provides transportation all throughout the city, to ensure that students get the full experience of Columbia, SC!

Football is a big deal for the students at the University of South Carolina. Although the game is only on one night a week, students spend the entire week preparing for it and then recovering from it. Many students go to a nearby restaurant district called Five Points. It is mainly local bars, a few nice local restaurants, a few shops, lots of live music and the typical chain restaurants like Starbucks, Moe's Southwest Grill and Subway. On the other side of the university is another restaurant district called The Vista. The restaurants here are a little more upscale, although there are a few more casual bars like World of Beer.

One of the most popular things in South Carolina is "Carolina Football", so the footballs games are definitely number one on the list. They're an exciting way to show pride and devotion of being a Gamecock and have a good time. The are so many different activities on campus, especially during welcome week which is a series of cookouts, gatherings, and social events to really make the students feel at home. I cannot speak for all the students that attend the University of South Carolina since there are a vast many of them. However for myself the best times at USC were the ones spent with friends, the intramural sports which sometimes felt more intense than they actually were, and lastly the clubs and organizations that exist everywhere on campus. My first year revealed so many friends just through attending the first "get to know us" meetings the clubs offered. Each activity included, instead of excluded, everyone around them.

The University of South Carolina is located in the heart of the state capitol, but is known to many as a college town. It is a small city but nightlife in the downtown neighborhood, 5 points, which is a great area to mingle with students and grab a few drinks. For those who are a little more adventurous, there is Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, which is about a 7 minute drive from the university. It was just recently renovated with a zip line course. And, whenever you need to cool off, students have fun chilling on a boat at Lake Murray.

We join clubs - We are a friendly lot here at USC and if it's possible that we don't have the club that you're looking for, you are not only welcomed to make it, you are encouraged to do so. In Russle House, our student union, every Thursday-Sunday (during the semester), Carolina Productions puts on movies for us in our movie theater. These films range from the Artistic to Blockbusters and throwback favorites. Just about every night a week there is something to do, a Show to go to - We have a fantastic Theatre program or an Open mic comedy night. The problem isn't finding fun and entertaining things to do at USC, the problem maintaining your GPA despite the entertainment.
