I'm an international student, and I have to ask — is Madison Hills University fake? I have seen lot of advertisements for it.

Avoid this school. Generally, you want to see that an American college or university is accredited by a regional body in the US; this school is not. Another important thing to look at is graduation rate, and the federal government doesn't have outcomes data like that for this institution -- another bad sign.

Check out Noodle's topics page on studying in the U.S.A. as an international student. It will give you a sense of what to look for in a school overseas and other common questions asked by students like yourself.

Also, a professional admissions counselor, Dr. Katherine Cohen, has published an article on our site with some tips specifically for international students applying to American universities that you might find helpful. She gives an overview of how the U.S. admissions process works and what you need to do to apply.

Online and or distance Universities that serve multiple countries don't necessarily have to have a regional accreditation. My undergrad degree was on campus at Ball State University, a well-recognized state school in Indiana and my postgrad was at Madison Hills. I found the rigor that one would expect from a graduate program to be of high caliber.
