I was able to graduate with a BA in English from the University of North Texas within 3 years while working a part-time job, so I definitely enjoy being busy. I have also recently completed a MA in Political Science from the University of Texas at Arlington. I truly enjoy working with people and learning about all aspects of culture. Being a DFW native, I am familiar with the area and am aiming to set myself up to work in an educational or community development related field. I have previously tutored college level students at UTA in introduction level courses over English and US Government. These sessions included individual and group tutoring. Due to my improvements as a tutor, I was promoted within a semester. Many of the individuals were first generation college students or had a learning disability such as ADHD or Aspergers syndrome. My tutoring experience at UTA was such a great fit that after graduating with my MA, I decided to return my focus to it. I am currently an in-home tutor with Club Z, which has expanded my experience to include elementary - high school level students. These opportunities have been equally rewarding. My philosophy of teaching can be generally summarized in the Chinese proverb, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for the day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This is to say that my goal for each student is to learn his/her strengths and weaknesses so that I can focus my lessons in a way that will help them the most. While I do strive for students to achieve high markings in the classroom, I believe it is equally important to teach them critical thinking skills and good study habits that will transfer to other subjects throughout their academic careers. Fun Facts: I love to fill my free time with music. I play guitar, drums, and love to go to concerts whenever I'm able to. I also love the outdoors and traveling to new places. I am very excited for this summer because that means there will be more time to swim!
