I am currently a Math Major at Portland State University. My plans after graduation include acquiring a PH.D in the theoretical field of mathematics and teaching at a university level. I enjoy teaching immensely and this has been the only field that I have felt enough attachment to, to pursue in earnest. I am currently the lead instructor at a tutoring facility focused on k-12 mathematics. I have held this position for just over a year and in the mean time maintained both college and high school private clientele in Calculus, College Algebra, Precalculus, and a few other subjects as well. I have enjoyed the positions and am currently seeking more clients in the upper math levels as I transition towards my college teaching career. My style of teaching is geared toward a patient approach. I like to see what my student is comfortable with and any sort of struggles or topics that need more time/attention. Traditionally, I give a basis of concepts that will be covered for a particular session, or set of sessions, and I ask questions along the way to make sure that the student understands the ideas before pursuing the exercises. I have found that many students will try to plunge directly into the exercise, following examples that they have seen and replicating the process onto their piece of paper. I think that learning should be more than punching numbers into a calculator, which is why I am dedicated to the understanding of the process in addition to the completion of the exercises. Fun Facts: I enjoy my life as a student at Portland State University. The Pacific Northwest is my home and I enjoy hiking, running, and exploring through the area. I also enjoy reading and the every day down to Earth things such as biking, vacationing, and going out to movies with friends and family. I am open minded and enjoy hearing new ideas and trying new activities.
