Out of all instruments, the sound of the violin is the closest to the human voice. Small wonder it is one of the oldest instruments still being played and it's tones can fit in to almost any style of music. Learning the violin from me goes far beyond technique. My training includes reading music notation, lead sheets, and playing by ear. All of these are skills that you can learn depending on what your goals are. A combination of these skills combined with technique on violin will give you a foundation of music knowledge that will serve you regardless of what style of music you want to play. Styles that I have studied specifically are: Classical, Irish, Bluegrass, Rock and Symphonic Metal. In addition to playing violin, I write and arrange music. My song "The Burning Plain" won a national award for songwriting. If writing songs is your goal I can help you apply music theory concepts is ways that will make your songs stand out. *** Lesson Details *** I tailor lessons to my students goals. I emphasize technique fundamentals, and help students apply the techniques they learn toward music they enjoy playing, or composing. After 6 months my Violin students will have a comfortable relaxed hold on the instrument, and have learned several songs while continuing to work on ear training and note reading. After 6 months my Songwriting students will have a basic understanding of scale theory , melodic movement, rhythm integration, and several strategies for coming up with lyrics. *** Studio Equipment *** living room w/ seating for parents *** Travel Equipment *** I would expect my violin students to bring violin, and music notation. I will have music stand, as well as computer/internet access if needed. For songwriting students, bring your most comfortable instrument (for our purposes voice is an instrument) and recording/playback device. I can furnish guitar, practice amp, keyboard musical recordings and CD/tape player, and computer with internet access. *** Specialties *** I have performance experience in Classical violin, Irish fiddle, and violin applied to Rock and Metal. I teach violin fundamentals and try to expose students to a broad range of musical styles, while maintaining instrument specific core technique: perfect pitch, and even tone.

Noodle says

Takelessons started as a platform to for music teachers, and is still strongest on that front. It provides tutors with organizational software designed to help track lessons, and so probably attracts more tech-friendly, highly organized tutors. No vetting or training is provided for tutors, so we highly recommend that you use their ratings and reviews when selecting a tutor.

TakeLessons says

Success in learning often depends on finding the right teacher; someone that not only has expertise in the subject, but also knows how to inspire. The teaching style that works for one student may not work for another. As a parent or student, how do you find the right match? As a teacher, how do you find new students that fit your style? TakeLessons bridges this gap.
